This podcast series & blog is inspired by the life of John Peel (1939-2004).

John reached millions of people around the world with his 40 plus years of broadcasting that was carried on the BBC, BBC World Service and countless subscribing radio stations the globe over. You could hear Peel everywhere from mainland Europe, India, Africa to the USA and of course all over the British Isles.

You'll be able to listen to everything great I get my hands on, from studio tracks, private live recordings, online only exclusives to forgotten vinyl gems.

The point is to allow people to listen to great music regardless of commercial intent. Peelie was too modest to want a show dedicated to him. It's always about the music. So from Lawrence, KS to everywhere we can possibly reach, let us remember what it's like to play music without boundaries and restrictions.

If you have the time please leave
a comment, good or bad.
And if you find a
song you love, please use
the provided links
to purchase the artist's music.
Always support the music.

Thanks

Michael Stoecker,
Lawrence, KS, USA

Clint Conley is like, um, really good at writing songs. The first salvo in a category of spotlighting releases I think are the Bee's honey.

First up is Mission of Burma's 1980 EP signals, calls, and marches. Make sure and get the reissue on Ryko b/c it contains their first 7" Academy Fight Song b/w Max Ernst. I don't have anything particularily novel to say about this EP and I'm not sure how to adequately gush over it in print, so just know it is a must own for any fan of alternative music.

The release contains two classics of the original alternative underground That's When I Reach For My Revolver and the aforementioned Academy Fight Song. Both were written by bassist Clint Conley, while the rest of the songs were written by guitarist Roger Miller. Miller's work is also excellent, but it's Conley's contributions that secure this EP as a favorite.

Here is That's When I Reach For My Revolver.

Buy the EP at Ryko.

A full on frontal podcasting-blogger orgy. Because there just isn't enough content to fill up our days. This podcast is going to go full steam into the nightmare of blogging. So in addition to the podcast, the website will feature various things people might enjoy. Or not.

Stay tuned.

The links below will get you to the torrents. It's broken up into 4 parts.

These things always come in waves. Sadly there is no reason for it, but the rule of three almost always applies to the passing of iconic people you looked up to.

Note: This isn't a podcast.

On the show I play a lot of music that isn't available commercially for purchase. Most of the time, the only way to obtain it is through bootleg markets. So in a spirit of sharing like it is 1970's Sesame Street, I will sometimes put Zip files on here for download.

The first such download will be for the Marine Girls 1983 John Peel Session. Four songs were recorded for the session on April 16, 1983.

Enjoy,

Michael
